About
The race
The Tokyo Legacy Half Marathon takes runners through central districts of Japan’s capital on a loop course that begins and ends at the Japan National Stadium. The race starts at Japan National Stadium in Kasumigaoka, Shinjuku, before heading east through central Tokyo along wide urban boulevards. The race finishes back at Japan National Stadium, creating a start-and-finish experience inside one of Tokyo’s most important sporting venues. The course follows wide city streets with long straight sections, allowing runners to maintain a steady rhythm through much of the race. The terrain is largely flat with only gentle elevation changes typical of central Tokyo, making the route suitable for consistent pacing. The combination of modern boulevards, historic districts, and a stadium finish gives the Tokyo Legacy Half Marathon a distinctive urban character in the heart of the Japanese capital.

Pro tips
Racing it
- 01
One Loop, Same Finish
The course is a loop, starting and finishing at the Japan National Stadium. Warm up and arrange your meeting point in Kasumigaoka before the start rather than looking for a separate finish area.
From the layout
- 02
Pace It Even
With roughly 20 metres of total climb over the half marathon, the terrain is flat and there is no hill to save energy for or to gain time on. Aim for even splits from the gun.

Settle On The Boulevards
Wide city streets and long straight sections let you lock into a steady rhythm early. Use the opening kilometers to find your pace instead of weaving, since the straights reward patience.

East Out, West Back
You head east through central Tokyo on the way out and return the same way to the stadium. Note landmarks on the outward leg so you can gauge how much of the loop is left.

Finish Inside The Stadium
The run ends inside Japan National Stadium, so expect a crowd and a walk to gear and exits after you cross the line. Don't plan a tight onward booking right after finishing.

Rails To The Stadium
The Japan National Stadium sits in the Shinjuku area and is served by Tokyo's rail network. Weekend morning trains are busy, so build in extra time for the walk from the station to the start.
Watch Them Twice
Tokyo's central loop line connects much of the course area, so spectators can cheer at one point and still ride to the stadium for the finish. Stay on the sidewalks and follow marshal directions.
Easy Recovery Walking
Shinjuku Gyoen and the Meiji Jingu area offer quiet, flat paths for a loosening walk the day after. Convenience stores around the stations are handy for post-race food and drinks.
