About
The race
Come join the amazing Humboldt County running community and take advantage of our perfect August running weather! The courses are almost entirely on the Eureka Waterfront Trail and the Humboldt Bay Trail along the east shore of Humboldt Bay. These courses are FLAT and FAST! Total elevation gain for the half marathon is less than 100 feet (most of our pace team measured between 75 feet and 85 feet in 2026), and the marathon is only slightly more. The highest elevation on the entire course is less than 20 feet above sea level. With early morning temperatures in the low to mid 50s and overcast skies, conditions are likely to be perfect for your Boston Qualifying time or a new PR. Runners always comment on how much fun the aid stations bring to the event. With a marathon and half marathon, there's something for everyone! New for 2027 will be the final piece of the Eureka Waterfront Trail, a completely repaved half mile section between J Street and T Street. This will keep the course right on the bayfront past the idyllic Woodley Island Marina. The course will be almost identical to 2025 and 2026 except that this half mile stretch will be shifted onto the newly paved trail. Humboldt Bay Marathon is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting fitness, outdoor recreation, and trails in Humboldt County CA. All proceeds of our events after expenses are donated to other local nonprofit groups that are aligned with our goals.
