The race
The Salzburg Marathon takes place in Salzburg, Austria, and offers a scenic course through one of Europe’s most picturesque cities, surrounded by the Alps. The race starts near the historic center and quickly brings runners along the Salzach River, with views of landmarks such as the Hohensalzburg Fortress and the old town. The course features a mix of city streets, riverside paths, and park sections, including stretches through Hellbrunn and other green areas on the outskirts. The route is typically run in multiple loops, allowing runners to experience both the historic center and quieter natural surroundings. The terrain is largely flat with only gentle undulations, making it accessible and relatively fast.
