About
The race
The Roma-Ostia Half Marathon was born from athletics enthusiast Luciano Duchi's ambition to popularise road racing in Italy, the Roma-Ostia has grown over five decades into a full-fledged European road racing institution, combining historical heritage with sporting challenge. The race starts from Via Cristoforo Colombo at PalaEUR, running through the wide boulevards of Mussolini's EUR district and crossing the bridge over the scenic EUR Lagoon, before joining the long straight road south towards the sea at Ostia. The most famous and feared section is the "Camping" climb around the 10th kilometre, a 1.5km ascent followed by a long descent, after which the legs can open up on the fastest section of the course, finishing at Piazzale Cristoforo Colombo in front of the Tyrrhenian Sea.

Pro tips
Racing it
- 01
Respect the Camping climb
The key test is the Camping climb around kilometer 10: a 1.5 km ascent. Ease into it rather than forcing, then use the long descent to reopen your stride.

Use the long straight
After the Camping descent, the course heads south on a long straight toward Ostia. Settle into a rhythm and save energy for the fastest running late.

Plan point-to-point logistics
This is a point-to-point half marathon from PalaEUR in EUR to Piazzale Cristoforo Colombo in Ostia. Arrange your return from the finish and avoid leaving bags at the start.

Dress for 8.7°C
Typical race-day temperature is 8.7°C, so expect a cool start and sea-air finish. Wear layers you can shed and gloves you can keep or discard.

Read the early city miles
The opening runs through EUR's wide boulevards and crosses the EUR Lagoon bridge before the long road south. Use these broad early streets to find pace without surging.

In Rome
Race-day transit
EUR and Ostia are linked by Metro and the Roma-Lido railway, so plan your start and finish separately. Expect busy trains around the race.
Spectator spots
Spectators can catch the start around EUR, then head to Ostia's seafront for the finish; the EUR Lagoon bridge is another viewing point.
Recover by the sea
After finishing at Ostia, take a gentle walk along the seafront and use the Roma-Lido railway back into Rome. The historic center is best explored later on foot.
