   The 08:00 start is in Cascais and the course is point to point, so sort your trip to the start beforehand and use the bag transfer to the finish at Praça do Comércio.

   Only 70 m of total climb over the marathon means no real hills to break up the effort, so settle into goal pace early rather than saving energy for climbs.

  The seaside train line links Lisbon with Estoril and Cascais, useful for reaching the start on race morning and for spectators who want to catch runners mid-course.

• Where to watch

  Spectators can see runners along the Belém riverfront near the monuments, then again at the finish in Praça do Comércio, both easy to reach on foot.

• Recover on the flat

  Lisbon is hilly, so keep post-race walks to the flat riverfront or parks like Parque Eduardo VII, and explore the tiled old districts at an easy pace later.
