   The marathon is flat with only 50 m of total climb, so run even splits rather than saving energy for hills. Use the flat profile to lock into goal pace early.

   Entry is by ballot, so once selected, build your winter training around the January 17, 2027 race date. The race offers both Marathon and Half Marathon.

• Race-Day Transit

  Houston is car-oriented and race-day closures affect downtown streets. Use METRORail or walk between downtown and nearby districts instead of driving.

• Spectator Spots

  Spectators can catch runners downtown near the start and finish, plus at corners and parks in adjacent neighborhoods. Pick a spot and stay put rather than chasing the course.

• Recovery and Character

  After the race, recover with a gentle walk along Buffalo Bayou Park or through downtown's museum and theater districts. Houston rewards choosing a compact area to explore.
