About
The race
The Heroes of America Marathon and Half Marathon Saturday, March 20, 2027 race starts and finishes at the intersection of West 10th St and Bay Ave in front of Woodruff Park, Columbus, Ga two blocks north of the Columbus Marriott. The full marathon runs both north and south of Woodruff Park (1000 Bay Ave) utilizing some streets including the 14th street Pedestrian Bridge onto the beautiful Riverwalk, going down and looping inside Fort Moore (AKA Benning). The course will then exit Fort Moore (AKA Benning) at mile 17 and returns passing the Iron Works Convention Center exiting to Bay Ave to W. 9th under the train trestle and back the start/finish line. The course is reasonably flat with some smaller inclines. Because of the width of the Riverwalk the Heroes of America Marathon does not allow participants who use hand-cranks.

Start by Woodruff
The 08:00 start is at W 10th and Bay Ave by Woodruff Park; use the park area to warm up and as a pre-race meeting point before the loop brings you back.
From the start time
- 03
Same start and finish
This is a loop course starting and finishing at the same W 10th and Bay Ave spot, so you return to Woodruff Park rather than needing point-to-point transport.
From the layout
- 04
Even on short rises
The course is reasonably flat with some smaller inclines; keep effort even and avoid surging when a short rise interrupts the flat running.

Riverwalk and Fort Moore
You cross the 14th Street Pedestrian Bridge onto the Riverwalk and loop inside Fort Moore, exiting at mile 17; expect a tighter path there and position early.

In Columbus
Downtown on race day
Downtown Columbus around Woodruff Park and Bay Ave is compact, but expect race-day road controls near the start and finish; use pedestrian routes and allow extra time.
Spectator spots
Woodruff Park and the Riverwalk are good places for spectators to catch runners near the start, finish, and river sections of the course.
Recover by the river
After the race, take a gentle walk along the Chattahoochee RiverWalk or through Woodruff Park to loosen up and enjoy Columbus's riverfront downtown.
