About
The race
The Hatfield McCoy Marathon was founded in 2000 and sponsored by the Tug Valley Road Runners Club. Our inaugural race began with just 13 runners. Now we welcome over 1,000! So, whether you want to complete the full 26.2 miles or 13.1, the Hatfield McCoy Marathon has a run for you! Oh yeah, if you are a “50 Stater” you can choose either West Virginia or Kentucky as the race state because you’ll be running through BOTH! Ranked one of The Weather Channel’s Toughest Marathons, Road Runner Magazine’s Most Fun Races, RRCA Championship Race, and Red Bull’s Must Have Medals. Do you need another reason to run with us in June. Be ready for a run through the hills and hollows of eastern Kentucky at the Hatfield-McCoy Marathon & Half Marathons — the event begins with a shotgun start at 7:00 AM at the Food City grocery store in the eastern Kentucky town of Goody, near South Williamson.

Expect a Bigger Field
The race began with 13 runners in 2000 and now welcomes over 1,000. The start will be busier than the small-town setting suggests, so seed yourself accordingly.

In South Williamson
Car Is Practical
South Williamson and neighboring Williamson, West Virginia, are rural Appalachian towns, so driving is the practical way to reach the start and move around on race day. Ride-sharing is sparse.
Watch in Williamson
Spectators can see runners in downtown Williamson, WV, near the Tug Fork river, which separates the two towns. The riverfront and downtown streets are the easiest places to catch the race.
Feud Country Recovery
The Tug Fork valley is Hatfield-McCoy feud country. After the race, a gentle riverfront walk in Williamson helps loosen legs and soak up the local mountain character.
