The Robin Hood Marathon, is a race in Nottingham, England held every year since 1981. The race today incorporates a half-marathon in addition to the full marathon. The original race started and finished in the Old Market Square, in Nottingham City Centre. From 1982 onwards the race has started and finished from the Victoria Embankment (Nottingham) taking in some of Nottingham’s most historical and scenic sights, including the City Centre and Nottingham Castle, Wollaton Park, the University of Nottingham and the National Watersports Centre at Holme Pierrepont. In 2005 Runners World Magazine readers voted the race the number two marathon in the United Kingdom. The full marathon was dropped for the 2012 event because of "issues with the route around Holme Pierrepont". The half-marathon event was held on a revised route. It is currently unclear as to whether the full marathon will return in 2013.

Pro tips

Racing it

  1. 01

    Loop Start and Finish

The course is a loop starting and finishing at Victoria Embankment. Plan to meet spectators and leave post-race gear there, since you return to the same spot.

    Cool Race-Day Start

Typical race-day temperature is 13.1°C. Wear disposable layers or arm sleeves you can shed once you warm up, rather than overdressing from the start.

    Landmark Checkpoints

The route takes in Nottingham Castle, Wollaton Park, the University of Nottingham and Holme Pierrepont. Use these sights to break the half marathon into mental chunks.

    Old Market Square History

The race originally started and finished in Old Market Square but now uses Victoria Embankment. Navigate to the embankment, not the square, on race morning.

    Loop Course Logistics

Because the layout is a loop, you don't need to arrange transport from finish to start. Warm up near Victoria Embankment before the race.
