About
The race
The Missoula Marathon was created by a passionate group of local runners with a simple vision: to share the beauty, hospitality, and spirit of Missoula with runners from around the world. What began as a community race has grown into one of the country’s premier destination marathons, welcoming participants from all 50 states and more than a dozen countries each year. Set against the backdrop of western Montana’s mountains, rivers, and open skies, the Missoula Marathon Weekend of Events offers more than a fast, scenic courses—it provides an unforgettable weekend experience. Visitors discover a vibrant downtown filled with locally owned restaurants, breweries, coffee shops, galleries, and live music, along with miles of riverfront trails, nearby hiking, floating, fishing, and endless opportunities to explore the surrounding landscape. Known for its warm community spirit and exceptional volunteer support, the Missoula Marathon has earned national recognition as one of America’s favorite races. It has been named the Best Marathon in the U.S. by Runner’s World readers and twice by The BibRave 100 , while also earning accolades from Runner’s World as a Top Marathon for Back-of-the-Packers and a Top 10 Bucket List Marathon .
