About
The race
The Manchester Marathon takes place in Greater Manchester, England, with a predominantly flat course designed for fast times. The race starts near Old Trafford and follows a largely urban route through several areas of the city including Stretford, Sale, and Altrincham before returning toward the finish close to the start area. The course runs mainly on wide city roads and residential streets with long straight sections that allow runners to settle into a steady rhythm. The elevation profile remains very consistent throughout the race, with only small undulations and no major climbs.
