About
The race
The Beijing Half Marathon takes runners along the wide boulevards of China’s capital, passing many of the city’s most recognizable landmarks before finishing in the Olympic district. The race starts on the east side road of Tian’anmen Square, before heading north through major avenues in the city center. Early in the race, runners pass several prominent cultural sites including the National Museum of China, the National Centre for the Performing Arts, and the Military Museum. From there, the route heads toward the Olympic Green, passing Olympic venues including the National Aquatics Center (Water Cube) and the National Speed Skating Oval before finishing on Landscape Avenue near the National Stadium, also known as the Bird’s Nest, built for the 2008 Olympic Games. The terrain is mostly flat with minimal elevation change, typical of Beijing’s broad urban layout.

Pro tips
Racing it
- 01
Flat, Fast Course
With only 55m of total climb and a flat profile, you can hold a steady, even pace throughout. Save nothing for hills—there aren't any.

Landmarks as Checkpoints
Early on you pass the National Museum, National Centre for the Performing Arts, and Military Museum. Later, look for the Water Cube and Speed Skating Oval.

Wide Open Boulevards
The route follows broad city avenues, so expect little shelter. Wind can make the flat course feel harder; draft off others when you can.

In Beijing
Race Day Transit
Beijing's subway is the easiest way around road closures. Use it to reach the start near Tian'anmen and to leave from the Olympic Green area.
Spectator Spots
Good viewing is along Chang'an Avenue and at the finish near the Bird's Nest. The start area at Tian'anmen Square is also popular but crowded.
Post-Race Recovery
For a gentle walk, head to the Temple of Heaven or Beihai Park. The hutong alleys around the Drum Tower offer a quieter side of the city.
